About Us:
SB & Company, LLC (SBC) is a certified public accounting and business advisory firm serving clients across the East Coast and Southeast. SBC combines the knowledge, methodologies, and technical capabilities associated with larger firms with the access, focus, and entrepreneurial environment of a growth-oriented firm. Our professionals serve commercial businesses, public-sector organizations, tax-exempt organizations, high-net-worth individuals, and families through tax compliance, planning, advisory, advocacy, assurance, risk, and related services..
Summary
We are seeking a CPA with Big 4 public-accounting tax experience who remains close to the work. The Senior will prepare partnership, S corporation, and C corporation returns and related state filings; build reconciled work papers; own assigned open items and deadlines; and communicate clearly with managers, staff, and clients. The right candidate brings the technical discipline of a large firm and wants meaningful responsibility in a growing practice.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare federal Forms 1065, 1120-S, and 1120 and related state income and franchise returns, estimates, extensions, and supporting schedules for closely held and middle-market businesses.
- Translate trial balances, financial statements, prior-year files, and client support into organized work papers; reconcile book-to-tax adjustments, tax-basis and capital-account schedules, fixed assets, and other material return items.
- Prepare partnership and S corporation allocations, Schedules K-1, and owner-related supporting schedules; identify how entity-level facts may affect owners and raise matters beyond assigned scope.
- Handle routine multistate compliance, including state modifications and apportionment work papers; identify nexus, sourcing, pass-through entity tax, combined reporting, or other complex matters that require Manager or SALT specialist input.
- Own assigned workplans, information requests, open-item lists, review-note responses, and status updates. Surface missing data, technical questions, scope changes, and deadline risks early.
- Research and document tax issues, proposed return positions, and elections with enough support for Manager review; seek consultation before taking a material position.
- Communicate directly with clients on routine information requests and progress, and coordinate with audit, advisory, or other tax teams when assigned.
- Guide staff on discrete preparation tasks, provide first-pass feedback where appropriate, and help improve reusable work papers, checklists, workflow tools, and filing controls.
- Bring potential planning opportunities involving entity structure, owner transactions, accounting methods, credits, or state matters to the Manager for assessment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, finance, or a related field.
- Masters of Science in Taxation or MAcc with a tax concentration
- Active CPA license
- At least three years of progressive public-accounting tax experience, with recent responsibility for managing engagements and reviewing work.
- Strong experience with at least two of the following, with the ability to support all three: partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations.
- Working knowledge of multistate income/franchise and pass-through entity tax compliance.
- Strong project-management, organizational, technical-research, written-communication, and client-service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and remain hands-on during periods of high client demand.
- Experience serving closely held and middle-market companies and integrating entity work with owner-level tax considerations.
- Exposure to federal tax planning, transactions, M&A, accounting methods, research credits, tax controversy, or ASC 740.
- Experience in a Big 4, national, or strong regional public-accounting firm.
- Experience implementing standardized work papers, workflow tools, project-management practices, or tax technology.
- Master’s degree in taxation, LL.M. in taxation, or another relevant advanced degree.
