Job Overview

The Residential Permit Technician is responsible for the preparation, submission, and processing of permit applications for both residential and commercial construction projects. This position requires a strong knowledge of local permit processes to ensure all projects are compliant with governmental standards. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Permit Processing:
    Review and process permit applications for residential and commercial construction projects, including but not limited to building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, generator permits.
  • Customer Assistance:
    Provide exceptional customer service by assisting applicants in navigating the application process, answering questions, and explaining requirements.
  • Document Review:
    Ensure submitted plans and documents meet local building codes and zoning regulations, ensuring compliance.
  • Data Entry:
    Accurately input and maintain detailed records in the permit management system, tracking permit applications, scope of work, and approvals.
  • Collaboration:

    Work closely with contractors' project coordinators to ensure the timely processing of permits and resolution of any issues or concerns.
  • Regulatory Knowledge:
    Stay up-to-date with local and state construction and zoning regulations, making recommendations for improvements to procedures when necessary.
  • Permit Issuance:
    Issue permits once they are approved, providing applicants with required documentation, and ensuring timely processing.
  • Follow-Up:
    Monitor and follow up on open permit applications, ensuring timely approval or resolution of issues to prevent delays in construction projects.
Qualifications
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 2 years’ experience in permit processing, construction, or a related field, preferably in residential and commercial sectors.
  • Knowledge:
    Knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, permit processes, and construction practices is essential.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and permit management software; ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively interact with contractors, city officials, and clients.
  • Attention to Detail:
    Ability to accurately review documents and applications for completeness and compliance.
  • Problem Solving:
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex situations efficiently.
Working Conditions

Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with standard office hours 8-5pm. Some overtime may be required based on workload or project deadlines.

Salary will commensurate with experience
