Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) Position
MDHA serves Nashville and Davidson County. MDHA employs over 300 staff members, has a budget of $215 million, and houses approximately 30,000 people, primarily through nearly 8,000 Section 8 Vouchers and over 6,800 apartments, which are mainly Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) units, at 39 properties. MDHA is a housing authority, a community development agency, and a redevelopment agency.
Position SummaryThe Rental Assistance Administrative Staff Assistant plans, schedules, supervises, and coordinates a wide variety of procedures and functions of the department; provides assistance to managerial and other personnel; assists in preparation of budgets and other reports; establishes and implements monitoring and evaluation systems for programs
Duties and Responsibilities Clerical Duties- Inputs information on computer system
- Assists in preparation of documents
- Takes and transcribes minutes of departmental meetings
- Supervises clerical work in department
- Prepares a variety of material
- Uses computer to produce and maintain records of the department
- Assists department director or supervisory personnel
- Acts as liaison with managerial personnel
- Coordinates legal action; coordinates activities with other governmental organizations
- Assists in scheduling various departmental meetings; consolidates data and prepares reports involving independent judgment and knowledge of the purpose of the material, and of the application of rules and regulations
- Analyzes data, reports and correspondence and calls the attention of supervisors to problem area
- Interprets departmental policies and decisions to employees and the public
- Performs arithmetical computations
- Resolves problem situations
- Assists in the budget planning and is responsible for monitoring departmental procurement activities
- Deals with the public and answers questions on matters involving extensive knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
- Coordinates the use of office space
- Assists in updating operations manuals, program flyers, and handbooks used in the department
High School diploma with ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in administrative support. Candidates with accreditation earned in foreign institutes are encouraged to apply.

Behavioral Skills:
Knowledge of departmental procedures; knowledge of all phases of work in the department; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; knowledge of monitoring techniques; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability and willingness to learn all phases of the department's operation in order to lend assistance as directed by the director;
ability to generate computerized work write-up preparation, knowledge of office purchasing procedures; ability to assist with intake process.
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to the department; knowledge of general bookkeeping procedures; ability to interpret budget restraints and assist in budget preparation; ability to organize and supervise the work of the clerical staff; ability to perform accurate arithmetical computations; ability to deal courteously with the public and to resolve problem situations; operate personal computer with proficiency; have knowledge of general office procedures;
generate computerized reports.
Physical Skills:
Willingness and physical and mental ability to perform the duties;
Ability to perform work with or without an accommodation that requires sitting, standing, and walking, dexterity of hands and clarity of vision, speech and hearing and powers of observation; other physical duties as required.
