Position Summary
The Manager or Director of Field Operations is responsible for overseeing all field activities related to paving and concrete projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. This role provides strategic and hands‑on leadership to field crews, superintendents, and project teams, driving operational excellence and maintaining high-quality standards across all jobs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage all field operations, including asphalt paving, milling, grading, and related services
- Supervise and support superintendents, foremen, and field crews to ensure productivity and accountability
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate labor, equipment, and materials across multiple job sites
- Ensure all projects meet company quality standards, client expectations, and contract specifications
- Enforce safety policies and promote a culture of safety across all field operations
- Monitor job costs, production rates, and performance metrics to ensure profitability
- Collaborate with estimating, sales, project management, and executive teams on project planning and execution
- Resolve field issues, delays, and resource constraints in real time
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure compliance and performance standards
- Develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs
- Recruit, train, and mentor field personnel to build a strong operations team
- 7–10+ years of experience in paving, construction, or heavy civil operations
- 3–5+ years in a leadership role managing multiple crews or projects
- Strong knowledge of concrete or asphalt paving processes, equipment, and materials
- Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, and field teams simultaneously
- Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
