Summary
Fessler and Bowman is responsible for successful bidding of projects, from the initial bid review and analysis through the handoff from the Estimating Team to the Project Management Team. The Estimator is responsible for all aspects of the estimating function, including bid analysis, plan review, quantity take offs, subcontractor pricing collection, putting together bid information, and assessment of both winning and losing bids.
Key Responsibilities- Developing innovative, accurate estimates consistent with Fessler and Bowman’s costs
- Conduct a thorough and detailed project take-off, assembling all quantities, man hour requirements, etc.
- Solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing, reviewing prequalification requirements, and determining the best qualified subcontractors
- Identify project-specific risk issues and the potential impact to Fessler and Bowman, as well as potential strategies to help mitigate those risks
- Review project plans and specifications and communicate with project stakeholders and internal resources to confirm the scope of the project
- Develop the project plan, the project schedule and the proposal documents for all estimates
- Review estimates for other estimating team members
- Support the determination of whether to pursue a project by participating in the “Go/No-Go” process on complex projects
- Create complete project budgets once a project is being actively bid
- Assemble documentation and prepare client presentations for proposal submissions
- Other relevant duties as assigned
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least five (5) years of construction experience
- Proficient in using Bid2
Win estimating software or similar tool(s) - Estimating medium-to-large commercial and industrial projects
- Creative and results-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency and self-motivation
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals
Travel to and from job sites and office locations is required for this position. Fessler & Bowman will compensate for travel when applicable. As an Estimator, you will be subject to various work environments. These environments include office and field settings. Employees must be comfortable with sitting for an extended period.
