Vice President of Construction Job Opening in Nashville

Match Built is an executive search firm partnering with a leading home builder with operations in Nashville, TN, seeking a Vice President of Construction to direct the division’s production and lead construction programs in accordance with the organization’s strategy.

A strong background in operations and construction, particularly in a fast-paced, high-volume home builder setting, is required for this role, and only candidates with relevant homebuilding experience will be considered.

In this role, the ideal candidate will provide leadership across construction and other assigned operational departments and will hire, train, manage, and motivate direct reports. Local and non-local candidates will be considered.

Vice President of Construction Responsibilities
  • Lead division-wide construction operations with a strong focus on safety, execution, and team performance.
  • Shape a work environment that supports collaboration, accountability, and consistent leadership standards.
  • Provide oversight for vertical construction and at least one additional operational department.
  • Identify risks early and implement solutions before they affect schedules, quality, customers, or financial results.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, including build times, energy-efficiency results, quality standards, and customer feedback.
  • Improve operating procedures, communication, and workflow across assigned departments.
  • Recruit, coach, develop, and manage leaders and team members throughout the division.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies, local building requirements, and applicable municipal regulations.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold teams accountable for results.
  • Evaluate staffing levels and reporting structures to ensure the division is positioned for current needs and future growth.
  • Partner with the Division President on annual planning, operating priorities, and pricing decisions.
  • Manage departmental budgets and make decisions that support profitability and cost control.
  • Strengthen the division’s trade base by developing dependable subcontractor relationships and addressing performance concerns.
  • Spend consistent time in the field reviewing community conditions, construction quality, and safety performance.
Vice President of Construction Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field preferred.
  • 5–10 years of production homebuilding experience with progressively senior construction or operations leadership responsibility.
  • Experience across construction, purchasing and estimating, and customer service within the homebuilding industry.
  • Proven ability to oversee multiple departments, develop teams, and maintain accountability for operational results.
  • Strong knowledge of construction plans, site plans, specifications, scheduling, quality control, and cost management.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial information, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical and operational information clearly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management systems, with Build Pro experience highly preferred.
  • Formal OSHA training or certification preferred.
