The Construction Safety Manager will be dedicated exclusively to the management and implementation of safety for F.L. Crane & Sons’ project operations. This position will work closely with F.L. Crane & Sons’ field leadership, General Contractor project safety teams, and other trade-partner safety professionals to promote safe work practices, identify and correct hazards, coordinate required safety documentation and training, and support compliance with F.L. Crane & Sons, General Contractor, owner, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide daily, hands-on safety oversight for FLC’s field operations, including cold-formed metal framing, drywall hanging and finishing, exterior sheathing, suspended ceilings, EIFS, door frames, blocking, and related work.
- Maintain a regular presence in active work areas and continuously assess work conditions and employee practices.
- Work collaboratively with General Contractor’s project safety team and other trade-partner safety professionals.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and assist with FLC’s site-specific safety plan.
- Participate in development and execution of Integrated Work Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, and daily pre-task plans.
- Review and spot-check pre-task plans and required permits.
- Issue, review, and close out applicable task-oriented work permits required of General Contractor.
- Conduct and participate in daily safety inspections, audits, and assessments.
- Identify unsafe acts or conditions and coordinate prompt corrective action with field supervision.
- Conduct or assist with project-specific safety training.
- Assist with required employee safety orientations and onboarding requirements.
- Participate in toolbox talks, subcontractor meetings, safety committee meetings, Plan of the Day meetings, foreman meetings, and other safety-related meetings.
- Coordinate safety badging and substance-abuse screening requirements as applicable.
- Assist field supervision in verifying appropriate PPE, fall protection, scaffold, ladder, aerial lift, and other safety requirements.
- Support incident, injury, property damage, and serious near-miss investigations.
- Prepare timely incident analysis reports and assist with injury case management and return-to-work activities.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
- Remit all safety records to FLC Home Office for proper retention and filing.
Willingness to travel would be a plus.
Education and/or Work Experience RequirementsApplicants must possess a current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety card and meet at least ONE of the following qualification pathways:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or safety from an accredited university, plus at least 1 year of direct safety oversight experience
; OR - Associate/2-year degree in engineering, construction, or safety from an accredited or industry-recognized technical school, plus at least 2 years of direct safety oversight experience
; OR - Professional safety certification from an accredited or industry-recognized certifying organization, plus at least 2 years of direct safety oversight experience
; OR - At least 4 years of relevant construction/industry experience

- Strong working knowledge of construction safety requirements and hazard recognition.
- Ability to communicate effectively with craft employees, foremen, project management, GC safety personnel, and other subcontractors.
- Ability to document inspections, corrective actions, incidents, training, and other safety activities accurately and timely.
- Ability to spend the majority of the workday in active construction areas.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and access scaffolds, elevated work areas, and other areas necessary to inspect FLC operations.
- Ability to work around active construction equipment and changing project conditions.
Must be comfortable enforcing safety requirements and addressing unsafe conditions immediately.
