CEI Technician III
As CEI Technician III, you'll lead field inspection, materials testing, and documentation—supervising and training CEI Technician I/II while coordinating with Project Managers to verify contractor compliance with specs and contracts.
What You'll Do
- Execute day-to-day construction inspection and testing—field coordination, measurements, reporting, and mentorship—to keep projects compliant and on schedule.
- Support Project Managers across the project cycle; manage assigned tasks efficiently to meet goals.
- Record, measure, and verify quantities; review Requests for Payment/Invoices and approve sign-offs.
- Maintain daily logs and field books (electronic or hardcopy) documenting progress, visitors, issues, and resolutions.
- Approve construction methods in the field and direct the work of CEI Technician I/II; provide training and guidance.
- Attend and, when needed, conduct progress meetings to discuss status and resolve problems.
- Inspect roadway materials and confirm conformance to owner specifications and approved submittals; perform concrete, asphalt, and soils testing.
- Create and approve contract change orders based on field modifications; draft newsletters on project status/progress.
- Consult with supervisors to plan acceptance testing and evaluate field conditions; escalate issues promptly.
- Report maintenance problems at the project site and collaborate on timely resolution; respond to client suggestions and complaints.
- Write staff reports, letters, and construction activity reports as needed; practice ethical engineering standards.
- Pursue ongoing training and self-education to stay current with industry trends; perform other duties as assigned.
Who We're Looking For:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent and five years of experience in building construction
- Technical school graduate and at least three years of experience in building construction
- Possession of a valid state issued Driver's License and required auto insurance
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification and necessary testing certifications (concrete, asphalt, soils, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of DOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction; familiarity with roadway reconstruction, rehabilitation, and pavement management.
- Basic knowledge of state and/or local construction and building guidelines; ability to interpret contracts, special provisions, plans, and specifications.
- Strong documentation, written communication, organization, judgment/decision-making, and interpersonal skills; clear speech.
