Position Summary

The Estimator I – ICU is an entry-level estimating position responsible for supporting the preparation of accurate and timely electrical estimates, bids, and proposals for Industrial, Commercial, and Utility (ICU) projects. This role works under the direction of experienced estimators and project leaders while developing foundational skills in electrical estimating, construction documents, supplier pricing, bid preparation, and cost analysis.

The Estimator I supports the estimating team by performing quantity takeoffs, entering costs, obtaining supplier pricing, organizing bid documentation, and assisting with proposal development. This position is expected to develop a strong understanding of electrical construction, estimating processes, company standards, and industry practices while demonstrating professionalism, organization, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs for electrical construction projects using drawings, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Learn to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements.
  • Enter material, labor, equipment, and other project costs into estimating software.
  • Assist with preparing preliminary estimates for small projects or specific portions of larger projects.
  • Learn and apply company estimating procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Input estimating data, generate reports, and review cost information using estimating and other software applications.
  • Assist senior estimators with reviewing quantities, pricing, and estimate documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Develop an understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, and installation requirements.
  • Identify questions, discrepancies, or missing information in drawings and specifications and communicate them to the appropriate estimator.
2. Bid & Proposal Development
  • Assist in preparing bid proposals and bid packages for submission to clients.
  • Assemble bid documents and supporting information while ensuring compliance with project and client requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining bid schedules and meeting established bid deadlines.
  • Support senior estimators throughout the bid process by completing assigned estimating and administrative tasks.
  • Assist with organizing proposal documentation, scope information, exclusions, clarifications, and other bid requirements.
  • Learn the company's approach to bid strategy, proposal preparation, and estimate presentation.
  • Maintain organized and accurate estimating files and documentation.
  • Contact suppliers and vendors to obtain material and equipment pricing.
  • Request, collect, and document supplier quotations and pricing information.
  • Assist with comparing supplier quotes and identifying pricing differences or missing information.
