Traveling Superintendent
Brasfield & Gorrie is looking for an experienced traveling superintendent to join our growing team to run large scale, multi-million dollar projects in the healthcare market sector. This role would be based out of our Nashville, TN office but would require travel to projects potentially outside of TN. The superintendent will advocate for safety as the number one priority on the jobsite and enforce compliance with company and jobsite safety plan and policies and all safety-related regulations.
The superintendent will partner with estimating, division management, and project management to supervise, direct, and coordinate management of construction projects, including direct liaison with owner, designers, and subcontractors to ensure efficient and orderly performance of the job. They will develop and implement production plans with budget goals in mind, assist project manager in the preparation of project status reports, and be responsible for daily reports, progress reports, compliance reports, and logs.
They will oversee the review of plans and drawings in accordance with contract documents and the coordination of shop drawings, procure tools and materials needed for the project to ensure availability according to the work schedule, determine staffing levels and timing considering building methodology as well as the availability of tools and equipment for each phase of the construction project, and recruit, hire, and direct the work of all company onsite field personnel in accordance with HR processes and procedures.
The superintendent will prepare or oversee submission of payroll to the payroll department and all documentation required to comply with HR and payroll policies and procedures. They will confer with supervisory personnel and employees (with appropriate assistance from HR and legal) to resolve complaints and grievances within the workforce. They will work with supervisory personnel and employees, engineers, architects, subcontractors, inspectors, and suppliers of tools and materials to improve construction methods and resolve construction issues.
They will ensure construction schedules are adhered to by determining appropriate staffing levels and material and tool procurement, supervise and coordinate subcontractors to monitor their compliance with subcontract terms, follow and enforce company policies and procedures, and coordinate and oversee regulatory inspections.
Education, skills, knowledge, qualifications, and experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred; minimum of 5 years of relevant construction experience. Healthcare construction experience required. Current knowledge and ability to apply relevant local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA. Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing and to present information to top management, owners, subcontractors, and other outside entities.
Professional attitude and appearance. People management skills. Leadership and management skills. Must be able to travel frequently by car and air to jobsites and prospective jobsites throughout the United States and to work out of town for significant periods of time when the job requires onsite supervision. Must be able to traverse construction jobsites in all kinds of work environments and weather to review work in progress, examine quality of work, and troubleshoot issues.
Works significant portion of day outside on construction site. Must be able to stand for long periods and work t be able to work in all types of weather (including exposure to extremes of hot and cold) and in all kinds of work environments. Able to lift/move up to 70 pounds. Able to stand; crawl; climb ladders & stairs; balance;
stoop and kneel; etc (physical activities associated with construction sites). Must be able to withstand for long periods of time noise, fumes, airborne particles, etc. associated with construction sites. Valid driver's license.
