Position Overview
IS Media Technician 1 – Metro Nashville Network (MNN) participates in all activities necessary for pre‑production, production, and post‑production of Metro meetings, events and special projects. The role works directly with the technical aspect of running and troubleshooting video equipment, and helps create programs for broadcast on Metro Nashville Network and affiliated media, including scheduling, video, audio, lighting, editing, and other duties.

Work environment 24‑7; will require flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary.

Key Responsibilities- Video Production
:
Participate in recording of business meetings for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. Metro Nashville Network coverage can consist of multi‑camera and single‑camera productions. Candidates assist with producing video content for cablecast, streaming, and internal use, adhering to quality standards and project requirements. - Multi‑Camera Responsibilities
:
Demonstrate proficiency in working within a team environment as a crew member or director of video productions, employing essential techniques such as transitions, quick decision‑making, and effective communication to ensure smooth operations. - Field Production Operations
:
Handle all aspects of field production, including transportation, setup, and operation of camera, audio, lighting equipment for both multi‑camera and single‑camera setups. - Pre‑Production Assistance
:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and clients to develop project outlines, scripts, shot sheets, and scheduling logistics. - Lighting Techniques
:
Apply knowledge of lighting principles, including 3‑point lighting setups, to enhance visual quality and create the desired atmosphere. - Audio Management
:
Manage audio elements by maintaining balanced levels, using gain control techniques to prevent clipping or over‑modulation, and selecting appropriate microphones for different recording situations. - Equipment Troubleshooting
:
Perform troubleshooting tasks on audio, video, and lighting equipment to ensure uninterrupted production workflows. - Post‑Production Support
:
Participate in post‑production activities such as footage review, editing, audio adjustment, colour correction, and finalizing projects using relevant software tools. - Video Editing
:
Use fundamental editing concepts and techniques to craft compelling video content using appropriate software and methodologies to meet project objectives. - Equipment Maintenance
:
Ensure maintenance of all production equipment, including transportation, storage, and routine servicing, to prolong lifespan and maintain operational efficiency. - Documentation and Reporting
:
Assist in preparation, review, and maintenance of operational process documentation, providing management with comprehensive reports to facilitate decision‑making and process improvement initiatives.
High School Diploma and one year of related experience using videography, lighting, audio and associated software tools necessary for development and cablecast of video programs.
OR
Associate’s Degree in a related field.
- Valid Driver's License
Candidate must receive and maintain a status of “pass” from Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) background check.
Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078, all employees shall be residents of Tennessee or become residents within six (6) months of employment.
Additional Qualifications- Experience using the New Tek Tricaster Production Switcher or similar professional video production switcher
- Knowledge applying concepts and techniques for using video equipment for both single‑cam and multi‑cam live productions
- Knowledge applying concepts and techniques of audio including maintaining properly balanced audio levels, gain control to avoid clipping and over‑modulation, and the proper selection of microphones for situational use
- Knowledge applying concepts and techniques of lighting including 3‑point lighting, fill, key lighting, backlighting
- Skill in concepts and techniques of editing
