Position: City Students Pastor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

The Downtown City Students Pastor role provides direction, leadership, and care for middle and high school students, their families, and the volunteer team. This position oversees weekly programming, events, volunteer development, and pastoral support for students, creating a space where they can grow in faith, community, and purpose. The ideal candidate is both relational and strategic: someone who can teach and mentor students while leading teams and systems that support a growing ministry.

This role has a schedule of Sunday - Thursday with Wednesday evenings being required.

Ministry Leadership and Programming
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Middle and High School Ministry at COTC Downtown.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for student engagement, discipleship, and leadership development.
  • Plan and execute weekly gatherings and small group environments that are creative, relevant, and spiritually formative.
  • Collaborate with the Family Ministry Team in leading the development of teaching content and ensure it aligns with the COTC’s vision and values.
  • Be a part of the City Students Teaching Team, which involves teaching regularly.
  • Collaborate with the Citywide City Students Teams in overseeing major events such as The WKND, summer camp, and retreats while ensuring each experience is organized, safe, and impactful.
  • Lead the High School Student Leadership Team on Sundays, which leads, serves, and provides support to the ministry.
  • Develop a strategy for local outreach and metro school engagement.
  • Develop and implement a middle school class for students on Sunday.
Volunteer Development and Team Building
  • Recruit, train, and empower City Students volunteer teams to lead small groups and events.
  • Execute clear systems for volunteer recruiting, onboarding, training, communication, and appreciation.
  • Foster a team culture marked by collaboration, accountability, and encouragement.
Student and Family Engagement
  • Build relationships with students, providing spiritual guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Create a safe, welcoming environment where students feel seen, valued, and connected.
  • Partner with parents to equip and encourage them as the primary spiritual influence in their student’s life.
  • Communicate consistently with parents about upcoming events, opportunities, and resources.
Administration and Operations
  • Manage administrative responsibilities including scheduling, communication, volunteer coordination, and event planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of students, volunteers, and event participation.
  • Support budget management and ensure responsible use of ministry resources.
Required Competencies and General

Skills:

A successful candidate possesses competency and demonstrated experience in effective communication, emotional intelligence and conflict resolution.

Must possess general computer skills, including proficiency with Google Suite. Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Capable of adhering to deadlines, managing multiple diverse assignments, and executing tasks effectively. Exhibits practical time management skills and works well in team settings. Demonstrates innovation by suggesting improvements within the scope of work, anticipating needs, and creating efficient, effective processes.

Self-motivated, takes ownership of tasks, and shows flexibility and adaptability in dynamic situations. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and connection across generations. Flexible, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment.

Membership Requirement:

Church of the City employees are required to become a Stakeholder of the church within the first 6 months of employment and agree to the beliefs, standards and responsibilities outlined in the Stakeholder Agreement.

Qualifications:
