The Aloe Family – a nonprofit organization based in Nashville, TN that works to empower and support individuals facing poverty or lack of family support. The mission is to provide opportunities for empowerment, well‑being, self‑sufficiency, and healing to resilient communities and individuals.

Part‑Time Immigrant and Refugee Student Tutor

The Aloe Family is seeking a Part‑Time Homework Help Tutor who will provide academic support to students in need. The tutor will lead volunteers and assist students in completing their homework and academic assignments during designated tutoring times.

May 18 – August 10: 2:30 – 5:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays at Rolling Hills.
June 22nd – 25th hours differ: 1 – 5 PM Monday‑Thursday.
August 11th and on: 2:30 – 5:30 PM Mondays and Wednesdays at Rolling Hills plus 5:00 – 6:30 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays at Plaza Mariachi.
Once a month on Saturday or Sunday for weekend programs, plus 1.5 hours a week in program prep.

• Lead volunteers in one‑on‑one or small group tutoring in math, science, English, social studies, or other subjects.
• Assist students with understanding homework assignments, concepts, and materials.
• Record and submit accurate attendance records for students and volunteers.
• Prepare daily activities, including making copies of worksheets or pulling out educational games.
• Conduct volunteer orientation for new volunteers.
• Maintain a safe and positive learning environment conducive to academic success.
• Collaborate with other tutors and staff to ensure consistent support and coordination of services.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Attend regular staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required.

• Background in education, nonprofit, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• College degree or in progress.
• Prior experience in tutoring or teaching, particularly in homework help and academic support.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and varying skill levels.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed academically.
• Reliable and punctual with a commitment to meeting scheduled tutoring times.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Spanish language skills preferred.

• 8–10 hours per week.
• 16 hours the week of summer camp (June 22 – 25, 1 – 5 PM).
• $17 per hour.
