QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in education with a valid teaching certificate in North Carolina.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the school principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district‑approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer elementary curriculum consistent with district goals.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating plans into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small‑group instruction as needed.
- Instruct students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters as required by law and district regulations.
- Acquire professional knowledge and stay current with educational developments through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
- Maintain accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with elementary staff, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies; maintain inventory records.
- Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities, including transportation activities.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal and central office administrators.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Self‑evaluation for performance and professional growth.
- Establishment and maintenance of cooperative working relationships with others.
Certification/License:
- State Certificate as an Elementary Teacher.
- State Certificate in the appropriate grade level is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree in a related area is preferred.
Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Equipment & Travel RequirementsUses standard office equipment such as computer, printer, copier, fax, and telephone. Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.
