School Psychologist

Qualifications:

  • Minimum master's degree in school psychology
  • Certification by the National Association of School Psychologists
  • Active Tennessee school psychologist license
  • Meets health and physical requirements

Job Goal:

To ensure a sound educational program for students who require at least a partially different program from regular classroom programs and to facilitate assessment of those students.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts assessments and observations as part of the evaluation process for special education students
  • Provides technical assistance and support for IEP-Teams, ensuring that placement is in the least restrictive environment
  • Serves as consultant to staff, ensuring that best practices in special education and preschool education are pursued in all school system initiatives
  • Guides RTI practices and policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

  • Talking
  • Hearing
  • Seeing

  • Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure

Capacity and Ability Requirements:

  • Intelligence:
    Ability to understand instructions and underlying principles; ability to reason and make judgments
  • Verbal:
    Ability to understand meanings of words and ideas associated with them
  • Numerical:
    Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately
  • Form Perception:
    To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures
  • Color Discrimination:
    Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color

  • 180-student-day contract
  • School psychologist salary scale
  • Immediate supervisor:
    Supervisor of Special Services
