The Department of Asian Studies at Vanderbilt University invites applications for a tenure-track position in modern Chinese literature and new media. The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in modern Chinese literature, along with scholarly engagement in at least one area of new media—which may include but is not limited to digital humanities and AI, social media, or the cultural politics of technology.

Expertise in Sinophone Studies is welcome. We seek candidates whose teaching can span introductory surveys of modern Chinese literature and advanced thematic courses in areas of specialization and student interest. This position will also support the Arts & Science Core curriculum.

Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Asian Studies, comparative literature, or another related field no later than August 1, 2027. Evidence of effective teaching is essential.
