Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Foundational and Clinical Sciences (FCS) at the Thomas

F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine (FCoM) at Belmont University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible faculty position in Anatomy. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, mission-driven faculty committed to developing an innovative, integrated medical curriculum grounded in whole-person care and dedicated to the College’s vision of transforming health through compassion and service.

This position involves teaching across the first two years of the curriculum, integrating foundational science content within organ-system–based courses, and contributing to active and team-based learning, anatomy dissection, histology laboratories, and clinical correlations. Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activity and service consistent with the expectations of a developing medical college and Belmont University’s academic environment.

Primary position responsibilities:

Teaching and Curriculum Development

• Deliver engaging instruction in histology, anatomy, and related biomedical sciences through a variety of teaching methods, including small-group, team-based, and active learning formats.
• Participate in the development, integration, and continuous improvement of pre-clerkship courses, ensuring alignment with program objectives and LCME accreditation standards.
• Collaborate with clinical and foundational science faculty to promote horizontal and vertical integration across the curriculum.
• Develop, implement, and assess formative and summative student evaluations that promote mastery and self-directed learning.
• Supervise anatomy dissection laboratories and contribute to the management and maintenance of the anatomy and histology teaching facilities.

Scholarship and Research

• Maintain a program of scholarly activity, which may include educational research, applied or translational science, anatomical education, or pedagogical innovation.
• Engage students in scholarly pursuits that align with FCoM’s mission and contribute to the academic reputation of the department and college.
• Seek internal and external funding to support research or educational initiatives when appropriate.

Service and Leadership

• Participate in departmental, college, and university committees, including curriculum and assessment subcommittees.
• Serve as an academic advisor and mentor to medical students, promoting personal and professional development.
  Contribute to community engagement and professional service consistent with the mission of the College and Belmont University.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to support a respectful, inclusive, and faith-informed learning environment that upholds the values of compassion, integrity, and excellence.

Appointment and Evaluation

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-eligible faculty appointment in the Department of Foundational and Clinical Sciences. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Tenure-track faculty are evaluated on performance in teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with the Belmont University Faculty Handbook and College of Medicine criteria for academic advancement.
