POSITION OVERVIEWThe Camp Specialist helps bring each camp day to life. Working alongside the Formal Programs Manager, Program Coordinator, and Learning Specialists, this role prepares schedules, activities, and materials, then jumps in to support counselors and volunteers when camp is in session. From keeping daily routines on track to engaging with campers and families, the Camp Specialist helps make every camp experience safe, welcoming, and fun.
The schedule for this position is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Support the Program Coordinator with daily administrative and operational tasks
- Collaborate with the Program Coordinator in building camp schedules, rosters, counselor schedules, and other tasks related to preparing for each camp
- Assist with camper records, rosters, and basic data entry
- Assist the Program Coordinator with staff onboarding and training logistics when appropriate
- Help prepare program spaces, activity materials, and resources for daily use
- Serve as support staff when camp is in session
- Assist camp counselors in classroom and activity spaces, including stepping in to provide coverage as needed
- Collaborate with the Learning Specialists in developing, preparing, and organizing camp curriculum, activities, and materials
- Interact professionally and positively with campers, families, staff, and volunteers
- Support and collaborate with camp volunteers during activities and special events
- Help ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all campers
- Assist with transitions, supervision, and daily routines throughout the camp day
- Follow all camp policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED
- Experience working with children, camps, or educational programs preferred but not required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work directly with children in a camp or group setting
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable
- Flexible, reliable, and willing to support a variety of program needs including classroom coverage
- Willingness to take initiative and adapt in a fast-paced environment
- The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
- The role requires working outdoors to supervise recess during spring, summer, and fall camp sessions, with exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50 lbs assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity.
