As a Directional Drill Locator, you will interpret the signals sent from underground transmitters about location, angle, temperature, and other factors for the drill operator, who operates the drill.
* Set up and calibrate directional drilling equipment, including locating devices, guidance systems, and survey tools.
* Perform pre-drilling surveys to determine the appropriate drilling path and identify potential obstacles or hazards.
* Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to plan and execute directional drilling projects.
* Implement measures to minimize environmental impact during drilling.
* Identify and address any challenges or obstacles encountered during drilling.
* Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of drilling equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
* Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols during drilling operations to minimize risks and prevent accidents.
* Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during drilling operations.
* Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and project progress.
* Collaborate with the installation team to assist with fiber optic cable pulling, splicing, and testing as needed.
Salary Range:
$26.00 to $31.00 per hour
This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state laws.
* Proven experience as a Directional Drill Locator in the telecommunications or utility industry.
* In-depth knowledge of directional drilling techniques, equipment, and familiarity with survey tools, guidance systems, and tracking.
* Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental considerations related to drilling activities.
* Ability to safely and effectively operate various types of construction equipment and tools.
* Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
* Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to driving and construction work.
* Physically fit and capable of performing manual labor tasks in various weather conditions and environments.
* Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs.
* Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
* A valid CDL License with a satisfactory driving record
