Dewberry's Nashville, TN office is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our commissioning department as a Mechanical Engineer - Commissioning Agent

Over the past three years, our Commissioning Team’s backlog has grown by 10X. This success is accelerating demand for our engineering and commissioning expertise. Our Commissioning Team specializes in a wide variety of markets and geographies, including Education, Healthcare, Industrial, and Federal projects across the Eastern United States (e.g., Louisiana, Oklahoma, Illinois, New York City, Virginia, Florida, and Alabama). In this crucial technical role, you will provide technical, mechanical, and process management support for the commissioning department on a variety of projects spanning all markets and geographies served by the group. This variety will keep you inspired, engaged, and continuously learning. Your skills will be instrumental in performing design reviews of mechanical and plumbing designs, inspecting building systems, and creating comprehensive testing and closeout documents, while utilizing cutting-edge software to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
Your performance will be crucial to the continued growth of our commissioning group.
- Execute commissioning services on a variety of project types.
- Actively support and coordinate with the entire commissioning team to execute projects and uphold our commitments.
- HVAC sequence of operation knowledge and capability to perform design review of sequence of operation and create mechanical system testing procedures, and testing the same in the field.
- Knowledge of manipulating, adjusting, setup and testing HVAC controls systems such as JCI, Trane, Automated Logic, Siemens, etc. Knowledge in multiple control systems is a plus.
- Complete working knowledge of HVAC chilled water and DX systems, including design, operation, and testing of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, AHU, RTU, ERU, VAVs, exhaust, FCU, etc.
- Review air and water test and balance processes, review TAB reports, and identify issues.
- Visit client facilities and gather necessary data to test mechanical systems.
- Create system installation and testing documents.
- Be familiar with OSHA safety requirements and identify deficiencies.
- Be familiar with building codes and make intuitive decisions related to them.
- Read and understand building plans and specifications.
- Work safely around electrical systems up to 600 volts.
- Effectively communicate with all clients, construction trades, and design professionals.
- Demonstrate high aptitude for abstract reasoning, assertiveness, thoroughness, and detail orientation.
- Work flexible hours and in hot or cold environments.
- Climb stairs, ladders, and use lift trucks; perform moderate lifting. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Travel approximately 50% of the time.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 8+ years of engineering experience
- Commissioning experience
- Commissioning process certification preferred or ability to acquire within first 6 months
- Business development experience is a plus
- Professional Engineering License a plus or ability to acquire
- Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills
