Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

The Senior Product Development Engineer will be a key technical leader within our Research & Development organization, bringing strong consumer-product engineering expertise into the development of advanced medical technologies. This role focuses heavily on designing highly reliable, user-centric, manufacturable components and systems. You will drive mechanical architecture, design iteration, prototyping, and verification for new devices and subsystems. This includes working closely with cross-functional electrical and software engineering teams to translate user needs into elegant mechanical solutions that balance form, function, manufacturability, and cost.

This position is ideal for a mechanically-minded problem solver who loves creating robust consumer-grade products and wants to apply that experience to devices that improve patient outcomes.

Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field (MS preferred).
  • 4+ years of industry experience designing user-facing products (home appliances, consumer electronics, handheld devices, or medical devices/products where usability is critical).
  • Expertise in Solid Works or similar CAD tools with a portfolio demonstrating complex mechanical system design.
  • Experience working with electromechanical systems, motors, gear trains, sensors, thermal systems, or fluidics.
  • Plastic injection molding (DFM, mold flow basics, gating/venting considerations)
  • Mechanism design (gears, cams, springs, actuators).
  • Enclosure design with sealing, IP ratings, or cleanliness considerations.
  • Structural and thermal analysis.
  • Experience with engineering simulations (FEA/CFD).
  • Hands-on prototyping and testing capability—comfortable in the lab building and breaking things.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple work streams independently.
  • Experience in regulated industries (medical devices, aerospace, automotive) and familiarity with ISO 13485, AS9100, or MDR requirements preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Lead design of mechanical systems, mechanisms, enclosures, and assemblies from concept through manufacturing transfer, aligned with the company's quality system and regulated environment.
  • Apply strong consumer-product engineering practices: tolerance analysis, snap fits, hinge mechanisms, seals, living hinges, latching systems, fluid-handling components, and motorized/mechatronics integration.
  • Own mechanical architecture for assigned subsystems, using Solid Works (or equivalent) for advanced CAD, surfacing, GD&T, and parametric modeling.
  • Perform engineering analyses (hand calculations, FEA, CFD) to guide design decisions, predict performance, and optimize reliability/safety.
  • Rapidly prototype components using 3D printing, machining, urethane casting, or soft tooling to evaluate form, fit, and function.
  • Plan and execute testing for durability, environmental robustness, material interaction, fatigue, drop testing, and manufacturability—similar to consumer product validation cycles.
  • Use structured root-cause analysis to resolve mechanical failures and drive continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with electrical, firmware, industrial design, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams to ensure cohesive product integration.
  • Incorporate ergonomics, human factors, and serviceability considerations into mechanical design decisions to improve the user experience.
  • Support phase-gate reviews, design controls, documentation, and design history file (DHF) requirements for regulated devices.
  • Develop components for injection molding, die casting, stamping, machining, and other high-volume consumer-product processes.
  • Support factory builds, qualification runs, and process validation activities.
  • Provide mentorship to junior mechanical engineers and guide design best practices, modeling standards, and development methodology.
Benefits
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability
  • 401(K) with large company match
  • Health Saving Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) with company match
  • Wellness Program
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
