Sr. Application Engineer II

The Protection, Controls & Automation (PCA) group of Digital Power is the engineering entity of Schneider Electric NAM that specializes in developing solutions for control and protection for electrical substations, data centers, oil & gas, and distribution networks.

Within this group, the Energy Automation team is seeking a Sr. Application Engineer II with advanced knowledge in power systems, protection schemes, protection relay configuration, testing, and troubleshooting. The candidate will lead multiple complex power system projects, propose new and creative features and improvements to customers, and train team members.

Core Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate and promote Schneider Electric Safety‑First policies, including STOP work authority, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design, configure, and test protection, control and automation projects based on customer specifications; lead development of design specifications, review and validate project documentation and test scripts; engage Application Engineers in testing and validation; execute projects during FAT and SAT; identify risks and provide mitigation strategies.
  • Lead project design and architecture discussions with customers and other business units on complex, multi‑BU solutions.
  • Collaborate with Sales and PM during project handover to clarify scope and promote Schneider Electric digital solutions for enhancement of existing scope of work.
  • Lead development of PCA projects by implementing technical standards and proposing new ideas and processes to improve efficiency and benefit the team and organization.
  • Manage technical escalation of customer projects by resolving technical issues and communicating effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
Required Skills
  • Engineering degree or master’s degree in electrical or power system domain.
  • 10+ years of experience executing protection, control and automation projects.
  • Subject matter expert in power system, protection relays, protection schemes, and protection relay‑based ATO schemes.
  • Mentoring and training skills.
  • Outgoing and energetic professional who thinks strategically and creatively.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to influence, convince, communicate, and mentor application engineers.
  • Well organized and proactive, works well with people.
  • Willingness to travel 25% domestically.
  • Knowledge of Schneider Electric’s medium and low voltage systems.
  • Experience with protection relay–based ATO testing and various protection scheme testing (feeder, transformer, bus differential, arc flash, motor).
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot the above protection schemes.
  • Expertise in communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP, and IEC
    61850.
  • Experience executing complex protection‑relay‑based ATO schemes over IEC
    61850.

Pay Range

USD 117,600 – USD 176,400 per year (includes base pay and short‑term incentives for U.S. based position).
