OSP Designer
Job Description
The OSP Designer develops and delivers detailed Outside Plant (OSP) fiber network designs that support telecommunications infrastructure projects. This role uses CAD, GIS, and automation tools to create accurate construction documents, ensure regulatory compliance, and improve design efficiency. The OSP Designer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, supports fiber routing and splicing design, and contributes to continuous process improvement in a fast-paced project environment.
Responsibilities
* Develop and design Outside Plant (OSP) fiber network layouts using CAD and GIS-based tools.
* Create detailed work prints, construction drawings, and permit packages for telecommunications infrastructure projects.
* Collaborate with engineering, construction, and permitting teams to align on project requirements and design standards.
* Produce supporting documentation including bills of materials, labor estimates, and other project deliverables.
* Ensure all designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and internal design standards.
* Utilize FME workflows and automation tools to support data transformation, improve design efficiency, and maintain data integrity.
* Apply Python or other scripting and coding languages to streamline design processes, automate repetitive tasks, and improve data accuracy.
* Support fiber design elements such as routing, fiber counts, assignments, and splicing schematics.
* Track design deliverables, manage priorities, and consistently meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Assist with onboarding and training of junior team members by sharing best practices, tools, and design standards.
* Perform additional OSP design and drafting duties as assigned to support evolving project and business needs.
Essential Skills
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in telecommunications OSP design, drafting, or engineering.
* Proficiency in OSP design and drafting for fiber networks, including layout development and construction documentation.
* Experience using CAD and GIS-based tools to create network designs and associated drawings.
* Ability to develop detailed work prints, construction drawings, and permit packages for telecom infrastructure projects.
* Strong understanding of applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to OSP design and construction.
* Hands-on experience with FME workflows or similar automation tools for data transformation and design efficiency.
* Practical experience using Python or other scripting and coding languages to automate design tasks and improve data accuracy.
* Knowledge of fiber design fundamentals including routing, fiber counts, assignments, and splicing schematics.
* High School Diploma or GED.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Engineering, GIS, Drafting, or a similar discipline is preferred.
* Experience in utility design and OSP design within telecommunications projects.
* Experience working with cross-functional teams including engineering, construction, and permitting.
* Ability to support the onboarding and training of junior team members.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, compliant design documentation.
* Effective time management skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Work Environment
The OSP Designer works in a professional, technology-driven environment focused on telecommunications infrastructure and fiber network design. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $38.41/hr.
