Dewberry's Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEPS) team includes a large group focused on design services for nationwide clients in specialized facility types and specialized design services. Our expertise spans high‑performance buildings, hospitals, net‑zero/renewable energy technologies, microgrid and energy resilience design, and other MEPS services. Our MEPS service line is ranked #30 nationally among MEP Giants. Because our backlog continues to grow, we are seeking a Mechanical Discipline/Department Manager to join our Nashville office.
The role will provide operational and technical guidance, training and mentoring of our design resources in all areas of mechanical engineering, assist in growth strategy development, offer technical guidance to help meet client desires and budgets, and work with a team of engineers on a variety of private, public, and federal projects. The position reports to the Business Unit Manager.
- Provide mechanical technical guidance and leadership to accomplish work commitments in proposals and assign leading resources.
- Assist Project/Client Managers by providing engineering resources to meet client desires and budget, including involvement in direct sales and sales efforts for multidisciplinary projects.
- Technical and quality oversight of all mechanical work, establishing and improving mechanical design standards.
- Offer on‑the‑spot advice and decisions
, including technical and cost estimates. - Coordinate with all disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
- Recruitment of mechanical staff, networking, interviewing, and deal closing.
- Organize mechanical staff for career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies to meet business and project financial goals.
- Schedule departmental staff for project assignments, priorities, delivery due dates, workload capacity, and conduct annual evaluations for each direct report.
- Provide general updates on project status, tasks, percentage complete, budget, and other metrics.
- Identify milestone dates where each discipline must provide information at each phase to ensure design coordination.
- Maintain attention to project scope during the design process to identify potential additional services.
- Control all production resources, ensuring all commitments are approved by the Discipline/Department Manager and accountability for deliveries lies with the manager.
- Accomplished mechanical engineer/PE with 15+ years of progressive technical experience in the design of mechanical systems.
- Experience includes technical oversight of multiple projects with proven success in meeting contract specifications and achieving high performance and team growth.
- Self‑motivated with highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
