Responsibilities

The Critical Power Group is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on most major UPS manufacturers of static equipment (e.g., MGE/APC, Liebert, Toshiba/Mitsubishi, and Powerware/Eaton to name a few). Our technicians perform preventive maintenance and equipment testing as well as emergency service calls at high profile government, institutional and commercial customer facilities.

The Critical Power Group also provides engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions of M.C. Dean, Inc.

Field Service Operations
  • Travel daily to customer sites and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation and maintain emergency response availability when scheduled, excluding approved PTO or designated off‑call periods.
  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Static Switches, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and related power electronics equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on contracted equipment in accordance with manufacturer and company standards.
  • Conduct system inspections, including initial, in‑process, visual condition, operational, and final inspections.
  • Perform maintenance operational checks, failure analysis, diagnostics, and corrective repairs on power backup systems and associated controls.
  • Utilize electronic and electrical test equipment to evaluate system performance and ensure operational reliability.
  • Maintain operational proficiency with:
    Digital Multimeters;
    Micro‑Ohm Meters;
    Insulation Test Equipment;
    Battery Testing Equipment (Alber, Midtronics, or equivalent).
Customer Support & Technical Expertise
  • Serve as the primary customer interface during service activities.
  • Provide technical support, guidance, and recommendations to customers, site personnel, and engineers.
  • Advise customers on maintenance best practices, procedures, and system reliability improvements.
  • Deliver technical assistance, maintenance support, and training to site personnel as required.
  • Resolve technical issues by interpreting and applying applicable codes, standards, technical publications, and manufacturer documentation.
Inspection, Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Inspect and certify power electronic systems and components for compliance with applicable codes, specifications, publications, and quality standards.
  • Certify inspection results and system compliance through documented reports and customer sign‑off.
  • Review system drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between recorded and actual system configurations through research and field verification.
  • Document system changes and maintain accurate records for future reference.
  • Prepare detailed inspection findings, corrective action recommendations, and system improvement reports.
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of quality control programs and maintenance practices.
