Key Responsibilities
- Prepare complete, timely estimates and proposals for plumbing and related mechanical scopes using plans, specifications, and historical data.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs by hand and with digital tools; maintain and update estimating databases.
- Use Trimble estimating software (and comparable tools) to build and refine cost models and bid assemblies.
- Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and vendor quotes; incorporate pricing into overall estimates.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, foremen, and procurement to clarify scope, identify risk, and recommend value-engineering solutions.
- Conduct site visits and pre-bid reviews to validate quantities, site conditions, and constructability.
- Prepare bid forms, cost breakdowns, assumptions, and exclusions; clearly document estimate basis for internal review and client submission.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing submittals, and historical cost data for future estimating and reporting.
- Assist in post-bid activities including negotiations, scope reconciliation, and transitioning awarded work to the project team.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience in plumbing estimating.
- 3+ years of hands-on plumbing estimating experience in commercial and/or multifamily construction; mechanical systems experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with Trimble estimating software (or equivalent digital estimating platforms) and electronic takeoff tools.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, fixtures, piping materials, fittings, valves, and installation methods.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and RFI documents.
- Excellent spreadsheet skills (Excel) and familiarity with cost databases and estimating templates.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across teams and with subcontractors and suppliers.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines under pressure.
- Valid drivers license and availability for occasional site visits and client meetings.
