This position will support federal projects for clients that require U.S. citizenship.

Preferred location:
Any CDM Smith office (hybrid schedule).

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, guide, and review power system analysis tasks and projects performed by members of CDM Smith’s electrical practice.
  • Serve as CDM Smith’s technical expert on complex power system analysis and electrical engineering matters, providing guidance on design, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving.
  • Act as a technical liaison with individuals and teams within and outside CDM Smith, exercising independent judgment on electrical design and power system analysis matters.
  • Work independently as the electrical lead or project manager for multiple concurrent tasks and projects.
  • Provide technical support for business development activities involving complex electrical engineering and power system analysis services.
  • Serve as a technical and professional leader, mentoring and developing junior‑level employees.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • 12 years of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required depending on project needs, workload, and business demands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing power system studies for water, wastewater, industrial, federal, or transit facilities.
  • Experience with medium‑voltage power distribution systems, substations, switch gear, transformers, and standby generation systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry and federal codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, and UFC requirements.
  • Proficiency in power system planning, system expansion analysis, and long‑range infrastructure evaluation.
  • Applied expertise in distributed generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, and microgrid systems.
  • Experience designing, evaluating, troubleshooting, and resolving operational issues involving medium‑voltage electrical systems.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead or project manager for power system analysis assignments.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, standards, white papers, or client presentations.
  • Publication in IEEE journals, transactions, or other recognized technical publications is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and power system analysis methodologies.
  • Advanced analytical, technical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, review, and provide technical direction for complex power system studies.
  • Proficiency with SKM Power
    * Tools and ETAP.
  • Proficiency with additional power system analysis software such as Easy Power, EDSA/Paladin, CYME, Milsoft, or similar platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical quality.
  • Excellent written, verbal, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to clients, project teams, and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple technical assignments and project priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other commonly used business applications.
