Your impactThriving communities. Connected cities. Jacobs is seeking a Lead Transportation Drainage Engineer to join our Nashville, Tennessee team in support of our Southeast Transportation practice. In this role, you’ll help deliver innovative drainage solutions for highway and bridge projects across Tennessee, contributing to critical infrastructure improvements throughout the state, including support for theI-24 Choice Lanes Project. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in strengthening Jacobs’ local drainage capabilities while supporting longstanding client relationships with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and expanding our presence in the Nashville market.
This position offers the opportunity to lead technical delivery while helping shape and grow our regional Drainage practice. You’ll leverage your experience to support business development initiatives, contribute to strategic pursuits, and mentor emerging engineers. As our Nashville team continues to grow, you’ll have increasing leadership influence, the ability to guide project delivery, and the opportunity to play a pivotal role in building a strong, high-performing drainage team across Tennessee and the Southeast.
Whatyou'll do
- Collaborate with project engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver enclosed storm drainage analysis and design for urban and rural transportation projects
- Perform drainage analysis and design in accordance with project requirements and applicable agency criteria, including TDOT standards and local municipal requirements
- Provide hydraulic analysis for cross-drainage structures and integrate results with roadway and bridge designs
- Design and analyze stormwater management and water quality facilities
- Support preparation of contract documents including drainage plans, specifications, cost estimates, and quantities
- Prepare project-specific drainage reports, hydraulic studies, and technical memoranda
- Contribute to business development efforts by leveraging TDOT and local agency relationships and supporting growth of the Nashville drainage practice
- Mentor and support the technical development of junior engineers and designers
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent)
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee, or ability to obtain within six months if licensed in another state
- 8 or more years of experience delivering drainage designs and hydrologic/hydraulic analyses for mid- to large-scale transportation projects for TDOT, or other DOT
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to coordinate across disciplines and project phases
- Working knowledge of TDOT design standards, manuals, specifications, and permitting requirements, as well as local municipal criteria throughout Middle Tennessee, including
- NPDES permitting
- SWPPP development and EPSC design/compliance
- Proficiency with Micro Station and Open Roads Designer Drainage and Utilities
- Experience designing enclosed storm sewer systems for roadway projects, stormwater management systems
- Experience performing FEMA floodplain modeling, developing CLOMR/LOMR documentation, and familiarity with tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and HY-8
- Exposure to advanced hydraulic modeling tools such as HEC-RAS 2D, XPSWMM, or Info Works ICM
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, Arc Map, or QGIS
- Established relationships with TDOT staff, local agencies, and transportation stakeholders in Tennessee
