Looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer for our Nashville, TN location.
Key Responsibilities- Process drawings received from the architect into usable models.
- Coordinate initial project set up and ensure the team has the current model through communication with the architect.
- Prepare electronic drawings accurately and efficiently.
- Develop design approaches and concepts in coordination with the project engineer.
- Implement design requirements as related by the design team.
- Perform system design layout and sizing for assigned projects.
- Assist in studies, load calculation, and selection of equipment to fit the project design.
- Anticipate problems and conflicts, providing recommended solutions.
- Review shop drawings, record changes, and keep disciplines informed.
- Attend project update meetings with clients and team members.
- Coordinate with external and internal contacts such as owners, architects, and other disciplines.
- Communicate design requirements and answer questions from contractors and suppliers during bid or construction phases.
- Maintain detailed records of communications with clients, contractors, vendors, and team members.
- Coordinate contract documents with construction administrators and perform on‑site inspections as required; may serve as Construction Administrator.
- Perform collision changes in Navisworks as collisions are identified.
- Visually review plans for defects in design work.
- Assist in developing man‑hour budgets and perform tasks according to the budget.
- Communicate with team members, project manager, other disciplines, and outside vendors for necessary information about drawings.
- Assist in the process of putting a set of drawings into an organized package.
- Keep up with the latest code requirements, design software, and industry trends.
- Mentor designers and EITs.
- Assist or supervise data collection and field verification.
- May hold project manager responsibilities on some projects, overseeing scope, scheduling, client communication, meetings, profitability, QA/QC, and job close‑out.
- Collaborate with a team of designers and engineers on standardization of design practices, QA/QC, and current issues.
- Two‑year technical degree in an applicable discipline plus six years of experience OR eight years of experience.
- Three years of experience with large‑scope projects.
- Revit experience preferred.
- Experience performing system or project designs with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret plans from other disciplines.
- Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and discipline‑specific software such as TRACE, HASS, and SKM.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of state and local construction guidelines.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Knowledge of construction terminology and basic math.
- Knowledge of systems integration.
- General knowledge of engineering theories and methodologies.
- Interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, and attention to detail.
- Judgment, decision‑making, organizational, technical writing, influence, mentoring, and foresight.
