Construction Materials Technician (post tension experience $28-$30/hr)

Job Description

The Construction Materials Technician role is an entry-level opportunity focused on testing concrete and other construction materials in a laboratory and field setting. You receive comprehensive in-house training and progressively take on more responsibility as you support civil, geotechnical, and environmental projects. This position involves conducting tests, documenting results, and communicating with project stakeholders to ensure materials meet project specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

+ Perform construction materials testing in the lab and field, with a focus on concrete testing for slump, density, and moisture.

+ Transport material samples from construction sites to the laboratory, ensuring all samples are properly labeled and accompanied by accurate identifying documentation.

+ Communicate clearly and professionally with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding project requirements and testing, observation, and inspection activities.

+ Tabulate, prepare, and submit data, observations, and test results in both written and digital formats for daily transmittal to the project manager.

+ Provide clear and complete documentation of findings and results to support project decisions and quality control requirements.

+ Maintain, clean, and care for testing equipment, vehicles, and work areas to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

+ Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites as needed to support project timelines and resource planning.

+ Adhere to strict safety standards at all times in both field and laboratory environments.

+ Participate in progressively advanced training and assume increasing levels of responsibility in work assignments as skills develop.

Essential Skills

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with project managers, technicians, clients, and contractors.

+ Strong computer skills to log daily field reports, prepare digital documentation, and send professional emails.

+ Ability to learn and apply construction materials testing procedures, particularly concrete testing for slump, density, and moisture.

+ Attention to detail in handling, labeling, and documenting material samples and test results.

+ Commitment to following strict safety protocols in laboratory and field settings.

+ Ability to maintain and care for equipment, vehicles, and work spaces in a clean and orderly manner.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ ACI Level certification in concrete or related area is a plus.

+ Previous construction materials testing experience, including laboratory or field work, is a plus.

+ Experience or familiarity with concrete inspection is beneficial.

+ Exposure to or understanding of nuclear density gauge or nuclear gauge equipment is an advantage.

+ Bachelor's or associate degree in civil engineering, geology, geoscience, or a related field is preferred.

+ Interest in civil, geotechnical, or environmental roles and willingness to grow into these areas through training and certifications.

Work Environment

This role offers a mix of laboratory and field work within a professional construction materials testing environment. You work with concrete and other construction materials, using testing equipment such as slump measurement tools, density and moisture testing instruments, and potentially nuclear density gauges. The position provides hands-on training for entry-level civil, geotechnical, and environmental roles, with in-house instruction and support from experienced employees.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
