Movement Search and Delivery is working with a well-established U.S. manufacturer of steel and metal products to identify a Director of Engineering
.
We are seeking a hands-on engineering leader with strong metal stamping, forming, and tool & die expertise
.
This is not a desk-only leadership position. The Director of Engineering will be expected to spend time on the plant floor, troubleshoot equipment and tooling issues, improve manufacturing processes, and partner closely with Operations and Maintenance.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop the engineering team, establish best practices, and strengthen the overall engineering organization
.
- Lead and develop the engineering organization.
- Provide hands-on leadership across metal stamping, forming, tooling, and tool & die
. - Troubleshoot equipment, tooling, and production failures and drive root-cause solutions.
- Partner with Operations and Maintenance to improve uptime, throughput, quality, and manufacturing efficiency
. - Lead new product development with a strong focus on design for manufacturability
. - Establish engineering processes, standards, and best practices.
- Drive value engineering, cost reduction, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support capital equipment selection, installation, and production ramp-up.
- Coach and develop the existing engineering team while identifying opportunities to strengthen the organization.
- Strong metal stamping and forming experience required.
- Engineering degree strongly preferred
. - Progressive engineering leadership experience in metal fabrication, stamping, forming, steel products, or related manufacturing.
- Strong plant-floor troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with new product development and design for manufacturability.
- Demonstrated ability to develop engineering teams and implement best practices
. - Resourceful mindset with the ability to solve problems without relying on large teams or extensive capital resources.
- Lean, continuous improvement, automation, and capital equipment experience preferred.
- Stable career progression with meaningful tenure in previous positions.
We are looking for a builder and problem solver—not simply a manager of established systems
.
The right person can walk the plant floor, understand the equipment and tooling, identify problems, develop practical solutions, and lead implementation. They should be equally comfortable developing people, creating processes, and solving manufacturing challenges
