Traffic Project Engineer | Nashville, TN Transportation & Traffic Engineering

Southern Search is partnering with a well-established engineering on a search for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer for their growing Nashville transportation team. This is a firm that's been steadily building out its TDOT and municipal traffic work across Tennessee, and they're looking for someone who wants real ownership over signal design, corridor studies, and traffic control projects, not just another seat filling reports.

If you're a traffic engineer who's ready to move from doing the analysis to leading it, and you want to work somewhere that actually invests in PTOE certification and professional growth, this is worth a conversation.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead traffic impact studies, operational analyses, and corridor studies that shape real transportation planning decisions
  • Design traffic control devices: signals, signing, pavement marking, and temporary traffic control plans
  • Run traffic engineering software including Synchro/Sim Traffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, Trans Modeler, and Auto Turn
  • Build reports, technical memos, and presentations for clients, stakeholders, and public meetings
  • Get out in the field to collect data and validate project recommendations
  • Work directly with TDOT and local municipalities on project delivery
  • Draft and design using Open Roads Designer, Micro Station, and AutoCAD
  • Keep everything compliant with MUTCD, AASHTO, NACTO, and TDOT standards
  • Own project timelines and budgets while keeping communication tight with your team and clients
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Active PE license in Tennessee
  • 5+ years of traffic engineering experience
  • TDOT or other Tennessee agency experience is a strong plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication for reports, presentations, and public-facing work
  • Comfort with data analysis and visualization tools
  • PTOE certification is a plus, not a requirement
What's In It for You

Strong salary and great bonus plan, not including full medical, dental, and vision coverage, company profit sharing, a 401(k) with employer match, paid professional association membership.
