This is a Non-Civil Service position located in the Office of the Metropolitan Trustee. The Tax Relief/Tax Freeze Specialist performs specialized tasks, methods, procedures or computations in support of Tax Relief operations for the Office of the Trustee. Works with the State of Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, Tax Relief Program guidelines and website. Performs related duties as required.

The Office of the Trustee is a Constitutional office that was established as a tax collection agency for each county in the state of Tennessee. The Trustee in Davidson County collects Real Property, Personalty and Public Utility Taxes. This office also administers the State of Tennessee Tax Relief Program, Tax Deferral Program, Tax Freeze Program, collects and processes Delinquent Taxes, Central Business Improvement District Taxes, Gulch Central Business Improvement District Taxes and Vegetation Liens.
Responsibilities- Ensure that each taxpayer receives outstanding service by providing a friendly environment, which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, and all other aspects of customer service.
- Meet with applicants for property Tax Relief /Tax Freeze Program.
- Verify income to determine qualification for the program.
- Fill out handwritten application for Tax Freeze program.
- Fill out application on State Tax Relief website, print and get all applicant owners to sign.
- Enter the new property tax information on the eGov Tax Accounting system.
- Submit the application to the State when the taxpayer pays their portion of taxes.
- Respond to calls and requests from applicants and state for additional information.
- Verify and record Tax Relief information and payments received.
- Determine from the State website which documents are still required from applicants and/or participants.
- If needed, call the applicant/participant to get the supporting documents to the State.
- Talk to each applicant every 4 years to verify eligibility.
- Keep up to date with changes in State Tax Relief Program requirements.
- Work on insufficiencies in State documentation.
- Assist in review of procedures for Tax Relief.
- Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma and (5) five years of increasingly responsible experience in customer service-related work.

Note:
Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
