Executive Director of Finance – Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital
Vanderbilt Health is searching for an on‑site Executive Director of Finance to lead the financial operations of our newly acquired Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital. The position reports to the Vice President of Finance for Regional Hospitals, with significant dotted‑line responsibility to the President of Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital. The role is integral to the Senior Leadership team and focuses on ensuring accurate accounting, budgeting, and financial planning.
Key Responsibilities- Direct supervision of hospital finance staff and selective operational departments, with dotted‑line accountability to centralized Revenue Cycle, Purchasing, and Accounting teams.
- Own the preparation of all budget, forecast, and long‑range planning efforts for the facility, ensuring accuracy of projections based on current financial trends.
- Prepare month‑end close explanations for leadership and participate in the close process to reconcile expenses and revenues.
- Validate statistical data reporting, leveraging deep knowledge of day‑to‑day financial operations.
- Analyze key service lines using costing data; recommend adjustments to focus on margin‑generating services and reduce or eliminate underperforming lines.
- Provide financial guidance to process and operational leaders (e.g., Admitting/Scheduling, Materials Management, Case Management/Utilization Management) to improve metrics and achieve cost savings.
- Serve as the primary expert on productivity and staffing optimization; use benchmark data to recommend staffing decisions.
- Work closely with department managers to help them understand departmental finances and identify performance improvement opportunities.
- Oversee day‑to‑day expense purchases to ensure fiscal responsibility and necessity.
- Manage the capital procurement process, aligning purchases with capital budgets and key institutional priorities.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial data to external agencies (e.g., Joint Annual Reporting, Medicare Cost Reports).
- Collaborate with central Revenue Cycle teams to address back‑end collection issues and identify revenue‑optimization opportunities.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., audit) to maintain compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of progressive healthcare finance experience.
- MBA or advanced graduate degree and 10 years of healthcare finance experience.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CTP, or CFP.
