The Metro Nashville/Davidson County Planning Department is seeking a Planner 1
- Front Counter
. Land Development front counter planners preview subdivisions, re-zonings, and other applications related to the zoning code, guide applicants through the development process, and write staff reports advising the Board of Zoning Appeals. The Planner 1 will also interact with the general public to provide information about local planning policies and codes. The front counter operates Monday through Friday and serves the public in person and over the phone.
The purpose of the Metro Nashville Land Development Program is to provide design expertise, professional planning advice, and policy and regulatory tools and techniques to decision-makers, developers, and the public so they can have the information and regulatory framework to implement and apply the principles of sustainable development consistent with the community’s vision established in the General Plan.
- Greet individuals in the Development Services Center who need assistance with Planning matters and applications.
- Answer phone calls and questions and direct calls to appropriate department.
- Review subdivisions, re-zonings and other applications relating to the zoning code.
- Guide applicants through the development process.
- Write staff reports advising the Board of Zoning Appeals.
- Enter data in City Works to assist with tracking cases among many Metro Departments involved in Development Services for the City.
- Process payments for applications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in planning, or related field, from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of related experience.
OR
Master’s degree in planning or related field from an accredited college or university.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note:
Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends in community and urban planning
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to community development and capital improvements
- Skill in collecting and/or analyzing data
- Skill in working with the public
- Skill in reading and interpreting complex materials
- Skill presenting technical and statistical data
- Experience processing paperwork and preparing agenda items according to established procedures
- Experience conducting studies, analyzing findings, and determining trends to make recommendations
