Planner - Plan Review - Land Development Division

Position Description

Nashville/Davidson County is seeking experienced individuals to join the Land Development and Design Division. It is an exciting time to be a part of a team that is shaping Nashville’s future. This position is non‑Civil Service and located with the Planning Commission.

Planner 2 will be responsible for reviewing complex land development cases. Current planning experience for a local government is desired.

This position qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness for qualifying loans.

• Communicate at a high-level with other Metro departments, development professionals, citizens, and engineers is desired.
• Accurately process, review, analyze and critique complex development issues with an emphasis on good urban design principles.
• Prepare items and make presentations to the Metropolitan Planning Commission.
• Write clearly and prepare concise and accurate letters, reports and presentations.
• Attend meetings and speaks to the public as needed.
• Provide information with attention to detail.
• Compliance with time-sensitive deadlines.
• Provide clear and timely communication with a variety of stakeholders.
• Prioritization and negotiation skills.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Planning, or related field, from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of related experience
• OR
• Master's Degree in Planning or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of related experience.

Valid Driver License may be required for some positions in this classification.

Note:

Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

• Working knowledge of basic legal principles of land development and zoning
