At CVS Health, we’re focused on transforming health care for our customers and making our company a great place to work. Our Pharmacy Technicians (Technicians) support the pharmacy team to deliver operational and service excellence within the store, assist patients and customers, and ensure prescription fulfillment is safe, accurate, and timely.

Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through standard operating procedures, best practices, and effective communication, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued.

Once in role, Technicians are required to complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager until all requirements are complete.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment (production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off).
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; assist with immunizations and other services when appropriate; escalate patient problems as needed.
  • Assist with basic inventory activities, including putting away deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories as directed by leadership and by law.
  • Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Maintain flexibility for scheduling and business needs; may travel to stores in the market to support shifts as needed.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety, privacy, and security.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services where allowed by law and supported by training (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, and offsite clinic staffing).

Where permissible, the Technician may also support immunizations, including:

  • Completing licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status to assist with vaccines.
  • Educating patients about vaccines and referring questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty.
  • Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting per public health requirements.
  • Reviewing and collecting patient information; tracking and documenting applicable data.
  • Monitoring and managing vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy (including age, education, licensure/certification).
  • If not mandated by the state, minimum age is at least 16 years; minimum education typically includes a high school diploma or equivalency, or active enrollment in a related program.
  • State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within designated time frames.
  • Attention and focus to concentrate on tasks and switch between tasks as needed to meet patient and business needs.
  • Customer service and teamwork; actively help people and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Communication skills for interactions with patients and colleagues; active listening.
  • Mathematical reasoning for dispensing quantities, days’ supply, and bottle counts.
  • Problem resolution for challenging interactions and decision-making.
  • Physical demands including mobility, lifting, reaching, fine motor skills, and visual acuity; ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs frequently.

Other tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
