Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Full-Time Faculty DescriptionSouth College Nashville is seeking a DMS Faculty member to join the team! This position is full-time, on-site in Nashville, TN.
The Full-Time Faculty member in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across didactic, laboratory, and clinical education components in accordance with JRC-DMS accreditation standards. This role supports student learning, competency development, and professional readiness through the integration of classroom instruction, hands‑on laboratory experiences, and clinical education oversight.
Responsibilities Didactic (Classroom) Instruction- Deliver instruction in assigned DMS courses aligned with program learning outcomes and JRC-DMS standard
- Develop, implement, and revise syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials
- Evaluate student academic performance and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate academic records in the learning management system
- Facilitate hands‑on scanning laboratories that reinforce didactic instruction and develop psychomotor skills
- Ensure safe operation, proper maintenance, and effective utilization of ultrasound equipment
- Assess student technical competencies using standardized rubrics and skill check-offs
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of lab curricula and simulations
- Supervise, monitor, and evaluate students during clinical education experiences
- Conduct clinical site visits in compliance with JRC-DMS requirements
- Serve as a liaison between the program and clinical affiliates
- Support and communicate with clinical instructors regarding student performance, expectations, and remediation
- Ensure clinical documentation, evaluations, and competencies meet accreditation standards
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field (per JRC-DMS standards) - Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related field
- Current ARDMS certification in Echocardiography and one additional specialty (Abdomen, OB/GYN, or Vascular).
Required:
- Minimum of two years of full-time clinical experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer
- Eligibility to teach in compliance with JRC-DMS and institutional requirements
Preferred:
- Prior teaching experience in a CAAHEP-accredited DMS program
- Experience with laboratory instruction, clinical supervision, and student assessment
- Familiarity with HESI or other standardized sonography assessments
- Experience with accreditation self‑studies and site visit preparation
- Strong knowledge of sonographic principles, instrumentation, and scanning protocols
- Ability to integrate didactic content with lab and clinical application
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to student success, professionalism, and ethical practice
- Ability to work collaboratively within an accredited educational environment
