Medical Speech - Adult
Job SummaryEvaluates and treats patients with speech, language, voice, cognition, fluency, auditory (re) habilitation, and swallowing/oral feeding disorders. Educates and counsels patients and families. Provides independent therapeutic services and identifies area(s) of clinical specialization and competency. Supervises graduate students as assigned in clinical specialty area. Participates actively in quality improvement activities. Collaborates with clinical practice team to achieve patient outcomes and system objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Provide adult acute care evaluation and treatment for swallowing disorders, dysphagia, speech disorders, language disorders, communication disorders, voice disorders, and cognitive‑communication disorders.
- Deliver acute care speech therapy across ICU, step‑down, and acute medical units.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dietitians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and the interdisciplinary acute care team.
- Apply advanced assessment tools and evidence‑based practices for medically complex adult patients.
- Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and discharge recommendations in accordance with Vanderbilt and regulatory standards.
- Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Completion of Clinical Fellowship (CF).
- Tennessee SLP license or eligibility.
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP).
- Preferred:
One year of adult acute care experience, including dysphagia and medical speech therapy.
