Position: Public Health Nurse 1 (School Health Nurse 80%)

Position Overview

The School Health Program of the Metro Public Health Department is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to work in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. This is your chance to work in a program that supports our Metro Nashville Public Schools by providing nursing services to the students of Nashville and Davidson County. The Public Health Nurse position will work in the Metro Nashville/Davidson County Schools.

Typical Duties
  • Provides nursing services in Metro Nashville/Davidson County Schools.
  • Evaluates the health needs of students attending assigned schools.
  • Provides or arranges for selected screenings and assessments.
  • Provides care coordination/case management.
  • Provides generalized health services.
  • Implements medication distribution system.
  • Maintains student health records.
  • Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed or eligible for RN licensure in Tennessee.
  • Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing. Candidates with Diploma or Associate’s Degree in nursing must establish a documented ability to competently perform all functions of this classification to be considered. Bachelor’s degree from a state‑approved school of nursing preferred.
  • All public health nurses are required to complete a department‑approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment. Possess required competencies upon hiring.
  • Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply, however at the present time MPHD is not sponsoring individuals through any of the US Government’s employment‑based immigration programs. Benefits

Full‑time, Civil Service positions – 10 vacation days per year (increasing after 5 years of service), 1 sick day per month, 12 paid holidays per year. Public Safety – Sworn and Civilian positions – 20 vacation days per year, 3 personal days per year, 1 sick day per month, 12 paid holidays per year.
