Department/Unit SummaryThe environment in this new unit will be upbeat and challenging. It will embrace strong team collaboration, with nurses and providers participating in rounding.
The patient population on this unit in our new tower expansion at Vanderbilt University Hospital will be adult patients ranging in age from 18 years and older who are being treated for Acute Respiratory Failure, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Multisystem Organ System Failure, Sepsis, Drug Overdoses, Gastrointestinal Bleeds, Diabetic Keto acidosis, Hypertensive Crisis, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, and Liver Failure/Cirrhosis.
One of the perks of working in this unit will be the unique opportunity of opening a brand-new unit with a multidisciplinary team. In addition to traditional ICU assignments, another perk is the inclusion of progressive care beds which allows nurses to care for patients who need more monitoring than a general care or stepdown unit, but not the full intensity of ICU care.

Full-Time Day Shift - 6:45 am - 7:15 pm, three 12-hour shifts per week
Set schedules are not available. Schedules are determined by unit clinical staffing needs.
Care Partner Position QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) AND one of the following:
- Current enrollment in a program of professional nursing RN and successful completion of the first semester of nursing school to include nursing fundamentals clinical
- Graduation from a Nursing Assistant or Aide Training Program within the past year (the certification is not mandatory, but a certificate of completion is necessary)
- Minimum of one year of previous (and within the past two years) experience as a care partner, nursing assistant, or patient care technician.
- One year of acute care experience in a hospital setting
- Flexible availability for scheduling

- Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
- Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
- Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment, and unit environmental standards.

- CLINICAL COMPETENCIES (Novice):
Demonstrates competence with interventions (such as point of care testing, vital signs, etc.) in practical applications of moderate difficulty. - CARE PARTNER PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (Novice):
Independently works with clinical applications for patient documentation.
- ENVIRONMENT OF CARE (Novice):
Demonstrates ability to set up and maintain patient rooms, supplies, and equipment. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering environment of care services while requiring some support and instruction from others.
