Overview
CD Baby is a globally recognized leader in the music industry and the first platform to offer artists direct distribution to their fans. As we modernize core systems, foster an agile culture, and leverage cutting-edge platforms, we aim to better serve our artists, partners, and fans worldwide. CD Baby, a Downtown Music company, is looking for a UX Designer to join on a contract basis.
You will influence how artists interact with our products and ensure complex workflows feel intuitive, accessible, and delightful.
This contract role is ideal for a self-driven, user-centered problem solver with a strong UX design portfolio and a passion for designing elegant solutions for complex problems. You will contribute to a major transformation as CD Baby creates a new, modern user experience that leverages innovative technology from Downtown Music.

This role can be based in our Los Angeles (preferred), Nashville, or New York City offices.
- Create user-centered designs that simplify complex workflows: distribution, catalog management, trending analytics, and royalty reporting
- Develop user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that clearly communicate interaction and design intent
- Maintain and extend existing design patterns while improving consistency and usability
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and other design partners to refine requirements, discover opportunities, and iterate solutions
- Participate in discovery and ideation sessions; offer design insights that influence strategic direction
- Plan and conduct lightweight usability testing to validate designs and iterate quickly
- Partner with Product and Analytics to define UX success metrics and measure impact post-launch
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design (WCAG AA standards)
- Support A/B testing or other experimentation frameworks when appropriate
- Use qualitative and quantitative insights to refine and improve user experiences
- 5+ years of UX design experience in digital product environments
- Strong portfolio demonstrating successful design of complex web user experiences
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools
- Experience collaborating with Product Managers and Engineers
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize in a fast-moving environment
- Experience with creator tools, music streaming, media products, or SaaS platforms
- Familiarity with design systems and reusable components
- Experience with accessibility standards and testing tools
- Exposure to UX research or usability testing methodologies
CD Baby provides base salary ranges for all positions located in the United States at the time of posting. The pay rate for this contract position is $80 - $100/hr your rate will depend on experience, location, and skills.
