Our client is seeking an experienced IS Appian Development Manager to lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise Appian BPM solutions across critical business initiatives. This role combines technical leadership with people management, focusing on scalable application architecture, mentoring development teams, and partnering with business stakeholders to drive process automation and digital transformation.

Hybrid, Nashville, TN
- Leads and manages Appian development initiatives from planning through deployment and production support.
- Oversees and mentors internal developers while coordinating external consulting and implementation partners.
- Partners with business leaders, analysts, and project managers to align technology solutions with operational objectives.
- Evaluates new initiatives and collaborates with stakeholders to assess business value, ROI, and technical feasibility.
- Promotes Agile delivery methodologies and best practices across the development lifecycle.
- Designs, architects, and develops enterprise-grade Appian applications, including process models, interfaces, business rules, integrations, and workflows.
- Builds scalable, maintainable, and high‑performing BPM solutions leveraging Appian platform capabilities.
- Leads technical solutioning and integration efforts involving APIs, microservices, SQL databases, and enterprise systems.
- Develops and maintains custom Appian plug‑ins using the Appian Custom Plugin Framework.
- Ensures applications adhere to security, performance, and scalability standards.
- Drives successful end‑to‑end project delivery, ensuring scope, timeline, and budget adherence.
- Participates in sprint planning, backlog grooming, testing coordination, and release management activities.
- Conducts unit testing, system testing, and supports User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Troubleshoots production issues and provides ongoing application support and optimization.
- Creates and maintains technical documentation, functional specifications, deployment procedures, and operational support materials.
- Collaborates with architecture, infrastructure, QA, and business teams to support enterprise automation initiatives.
- Contributes to process optimization, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Stays current on emerging Appian platform capabilities, automation technologies, and industry trends.
- Fosters a collaborative, team‑oriented environment built on accountability, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive experience within Information Technology environments.
- 5–7 years of hands‑on Appian BPM development experience using Appian version 22.x or newer.
- 5+ years of experience serving as a Lead Developer or Technical Lead on Appian initiatives.
- Proven experience leading internal teams and managing external development partners.
- Experience with APIs and microservices, SQL and relational databases, J2EE technologies, web services, and enterprise integrations.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies.
- Certifications:
Appian Certified Associate Developer and/or Appian Certified Lead Developer strongly preferred. PMP and/or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certifications are highly desirable. - Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with multiple priorities.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Automate.
- Strong understanding of business process modeling and workflow orchestration.
- Expertise in scalable application architecture and performance optimization.
- Experience with data management, QA readiness, and release planning.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Knowledge of value stream mapping, root cause analysis, change management, risk assessment, and mitigation.
