OverviewWe are looking for an experienced scientist passionate about pushing the boundaries of machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, automated reasoning, or robotics. You will lead complex scientific initiatives, mentor junior scientists, and drive innovation on some of the most challenging problems in the industry.
Responsibilities- Own and drive the end‑to‑end design, development, and deployment of large‑scale scientific systems
- Define and lead long‑term technical roadmaps that align with Amazon Science’s strategic goals
- Mentor and guide Applied Scientists, research interns, and cross‑functional team members to elevate the overall technical excellence of the team
- Collaborate with senior Amazon scientists, engineering leaders, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities, define requirements, and deliver impactful solutions at scale
- Publish and present research findings internally and externally, contributing to Amazon’s scientific reputation and thought leadership
- Independently identify novel research directions and translate them into production‑level systems capable of handling massive datasets and solving previously unsolved problems

Basic Qualifications- PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics, or equivalent quantitative field
- Or Master’s degree and at least 6 years of building machine‑learning models or developing algorithms for business applications
- Knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java, or Perl
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit‑learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensor Flow, Num Py, Sci Py, etc.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
Base salary ranges:
USA, TN, Nashville – $158,800 to $214,800 USD annually or USA, WA, Bellevue – $167,100 to $226,100 USD annually
. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D, and optional Supplemental Life plans), EAP, mental health support, medical advice line, flexible spending accounts, adoption and surrogacy reimbursement coverage, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
