Data Analyst
A Brief Overview
The Healthcare Information Data Scientist Sr. works independently from a senior position with limited supervision, producing innovative solutions through exploratory data analysis of complex, high‑dimensional databases. The role involves designing, configuring, developing, and evaluating predictive models and advanced algorithms that extract optimal value from data. Communication is key, with the need to convey findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Other duties include documentation, training analysts and super users, coordinating hardware installation and support, and exercising independent judgment to resolve urgent problems and emergencies while modeling appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH’s mission, vision, and values.
- Analyze problems and develop solutions using computer software programs and applications, designing programs or queries to retrieve complex data from databases in one or more programming languages.
- Apply theoretical expertise and innovation to create or apply new technology.
- Support EHR and other clinical or business information system database application build and maintenance.
- Configure EHR and related systems, building worklists, Boolean rules, populating master files, CDM, and adapting vendor model clinical documentation tools.
- Build and configure report distribution for EHR and other systems.
- Complete assigned tasks in project and/or tracking systems, ensuring documentation upon completion to prevent project delays.
- Document and maintain application design and build documents, including Visio workflow diagrams, build trackers, and IT Service Management records.
- Participate in interface planning, design, testing, and test script creation.
- Engage in activities related to project pre‑work, configuration, testing, training, activation, and post‑live support and stabilization.
- Identify and plan for current and future customer requirements, analyzing complex business and technical problems.
- Lead operational work groups, documenting work completed and next steps, compiling and assessing user feedback, gathering requirements for application configuration, and reviewing application builds.
- Guide workflow design, build and test systems, and analyze other technical issues.
- Work with the training team to develop training materials.
- Support cutover and activation activities for the functional area.
- Review project status and issues with leaders on an ongoing basis.
- Implement approved changes to the system, notifying managers or directors of concerns before implementation.
- Serve as liaison between end users, vendor implementation staff, clinical and business leaders to ensure system meets needs and project deliverables.
- Troubleshoot problems and respond to questions.
- Develop, conduct, and coordinate IT or information management training programs for clinical departments, medical staff, students, and others as needed.
- Coordinate new service requests—network, hardware, and software—for assigned departments.
- Act as primary support contact for application end users.
- Provide after‑hours support through on‑call duties for critical systems.
- Proactively review, recommend, and implement data security, integrity, backup, and recovery procedures.
- Stay current on emerging information technology relevant to assigned clinical and/or business areas.
- Respond on a 7/24 on‑call basis to application and customer problems, ensuring timely, professional resolution within ability.
- Associate's Degree in Business Administration/Management
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Data Science (preferred)
- 3–5 years of computer programming experience (required)
- Balanced operational, project management, and organizational skills.
- Knowledgeable about MLH’s policies, procedures, and clinical/business operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge in software business intelligence, data analysis, data mining, compiler/decompiler, user interface, enterprise application integration, job scheduling, and server and network monitoring.
