Geographic Information Systems Specialist (GIS)

(Current openingis in the System Operations section of the Power System Operations Department

Bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, engineering, or computer science from an accredited institution is required.

No experience is required.

• Employees who receive a positive drug or alcohol test result within the past 12 months prior to posting will not certify for the job.
• Employees who have less than a “good” overall job performance on their last performance appraisal will not certify for the job.
• Employees who receive a disciplinary suspension within the past 12 months of posting will not certify for the job.
• Employees who fail or did not take the most recent Safety Manual Test will not certify for any job that would be a promotion.

a. Assist in or plan, develop, and program GIS applications to support end user needs using various software and programming languages as necessary.

b. Assist in or coordinate GIS data conversion activities and quality assurance/quality control to ensure GIS data integrity,

c. Assist in installing, configuring, troubleshooting and supporting GIS software and end user applications.

d. Assist or perform complex spatial analyses using GIS software and custom applications to generate reports and/or cartographic products as required.

e. Provide technical support for the GIS software and applications as needed.

f. Assist in planning, developing, and presenting GIS training material and courses.

g.Communicate with employees, customers, and other entities through personal contact, telephone, radio, writing, or electronic means to provide information or to answer questions related to the area of responsibility.

h. Perform work in a safe manner to protect employees, the public, and property.

The working environment of this job includes physical surroundings that are nearly ideal. This includes usual office working conditions. This job demands light physical effort. Occasionally moves or lifts light objects. Seldom walks or stands for prolonged periods.

Note:

The selection process for this position will involve behavioral interviews.

Must have a valid Class D driver’s license from state of residence in accordance with state law.

The current Minimum rate is $42.03 per hour, and the Maximum rate is $59.39 per hour.
