All About Being a Special Projects Ambassador

Block by Block is looking for people who like working outdoors, staying active and feeling a sense of accomplishment, while improving some of your cities most important public spaces. If you love interacting with people in your current environment, but are looking for more variety in your assignments this might be the job for you!

Special Project Ambassadors are often like the local caretakers in the public spaces they serve because they:

  • Professionally represent not only us, but our customer, and they realize we're highly visible and operate in one of our cities' most important fish bowls.
  • Help the public see that the space we serve is well cared for, leading to more return visits and sharing positive experiences.
  • Take ownership of every person's experience in the public space, whether it's a visitor, resident, worker or member of the street population.

As a Special Projects Ambassador, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will likely include the following responsibilities:

  • Experienced in operating lawn equipment to complete mowing, trimming and edging
  • Circulate through assigned work zones in the work area completing manual and/or mechanical cleaning of needed items or spaces.
  • Operate large hot water power unit to clean sidewalks or plazas, street furniture, or any other areas in need of deep cleaning.
  • Operation of large litter vacuums to sweep up litter, debris or leaves.
  • Staying Visible, and Be Really Friendly:
Our job is to not only clean, but to be a visible presence and have friendly interactions with the people in the public space we serve
  • Ongoing Reporting:
Be comfortable using our simple smart phone app to report normal activities and maintenance reports

We might be a great match if:

  • If you have a driver's license (Yes! This is required)
  • You're handy with basic tools and understand how things work
  • You like being active! (who doesn't like paid exercise!) Candidates must have the physical capacity to stand and move continuously during an eight-hour shift, with normal breaks (two fifteen-minute breaks and one thirty-minute meal break)
  • You like working outdoors! (we provide inclement weather gear) All of our work is performed outside.
  • You love going home every day with the sense of accomplishment that you made your city or someone else's day better.
  • You are looking for a fantastic, second career opportunity (a.k.a. We love retirees!)

Maybe not so much if...

  • You are looking for only a Monday through Friday job. We are busy all day (especially on the weekends)
  • You only like working indoors
  • You want to be sitting most of your day.
  • You don't like people.
  • You're not 18.
