Role OverviewAs a Construction Services Assistant, you help supervise resident relations and occupied unit renovations, vendor oversight, and curb appeal management to ensure construction projects go smoothly for both workers and residents.
This is a project-based role with an expected duration of 4-5 months.
The Resident Experience Champion- Minimize the disruptive aspects of our construction projects so residents can continue enjoying a happy home life
- Keep residents in the loop regarding the status of projects by clearly communicating what’s currently underway and what’s coming next
- Embody Cortland’s high standards of excellence and represent your community in a professional manner on and off the property
- Bend over backwards to solve residents’ renovation-related problems — turning just about anybody’s frown upside-down
- Ensure that construction workers follow principles of conduct and respect community residents to contribute to a pleasant renovation site
- Supervise work performed in occupied units to safeguard residents’ belongings and make sure their apartments are in the same state as they left them
- Lock up each unit at the end of the day, making sure no subcontractors are lingering behind and that all in-process work areas are spiffy clean
- Understand that an absence of clutter and chaos make for strong curb appeal and a powerful first impression
- Keep renovation sites clean and tidy — removing trash, breaking down empty boxes, or helping to clean up available apartment units
- Keep our grounds, amenities, building exteriors, office spaces, parking lots, and other community buildings clear of construction debris
- Perform tasks professionally, without endangering yourself, residents, or fellow associates — report physical safety hazards to your supervisor
- Resident retention is at an all-time high, even with all the construction and renovations going on.
- Residents can walk through their outdoor space with pride, “ooh-ing” and “ahh-ing” over how little their spaces have been disturbed.
- Subcontractors stick to our low-disturbance protocols and are motivated to keep work areas as clean as possible.
- Grounds and common areas look so great that residents wonder if these so-called renovations are even taking place.
- High school diploma
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey project updates and resolve concerns professionally across a diverse range of people, including the Construction team, residents, vendors and on-site teams.
- Customer service orientation with experience maintaining positive resident relations and solving renovation-related issues.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure units and common areas are secure, clean, and orderly with minimum impact to the Residents’ standard of living
- Knowledge of safety standards and ability to enforce compliance among subcontractors.
- Physical stamina and comfort performing hands-on tasks in active construction environments.
- A valid driver’s license and auto insurance
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and execute in a transitional environment
