Production Manager, Fabrication, Woodworking, Manufacturing & Industrial Operations
About The Role
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Shop & Production Manager to take ownership of day-to-day shop operations for a growing cabinetry and millwork company.
This is a hands-on leadership position, not a desk-only management role. The ideal candidate has practical experience building cabinets or millwork and understands the complete production process-from reviewing plans and organizing materials to CNC operation, fabrication, assembly, quality control, and preparing finished work for installation.
We have a strong pipeline of projects and need someone who can immediately step in, organize production, coordinate people and materials, troubleshoot issues, and ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities- Manage daily shop operations, production scheduling, and workflow to meet project deadlines.
- Review and interpret architectural plans, cabinet drawings, elevations, and shop drawings.
- Operate and oversee a Shop Sabre CNC router, including setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance coordination.
- Translate drawings, cut lists, and project requirements into efficient production plans.
- Coordinate and order plywood, hardwoods, hardware, and other materials.
- Monitor material availability, lead times, and requirements against production schedules.
- Organize and prioritize multiple cabinetry and millwork projects moving through the shop.
- Lead, direct, and work alongside cabinetmakers and shop personnel when needed.
- Assign work and coordinate labor based on project priorities and deadlines.
- Monitor labor, material usage, production efficiency, and overall shop performance.
- Maintain quality control throughout fabrication and assembly.
- Identify production issues early and implement solutions before they impact installation schedules.
- Reduce material waste, unnecessary labor, and rework through efficient processes.
- Ensure cabinets, panels, fillers, hardware, and other components are complete, accurate, and installation-ready.
- Coordinate closely with ownership, project management, and installation teams.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Help establish and improve production systems and processes as the company grows.
- Previous experience in custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, woodworking, or professional cabinet manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of cabinet construction, materials, hardware, and fabrication methods.
- At least 2 years of hands‑on CNC woodworking experience preferred.
- Experience operating CNC routers used in cabinetry or woodworking.
- Shop Sabre experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret architectural plans, cabinet drawings, elevations, and shop drawings.
- Experience with production scheduling and managing multiple projects.
- Experience ordering and coordinating sheet goods, hardwoods, hardware, and other materials.
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to CNC equipment, fabrication, and production.
- Experience supervising, leading, or coordinating shop personnel.
- Strong understanding of quality control and installation‑ready cabinet production.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Comfortable using computers and production/project management software.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to work hands‑on in a production shop environment.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, organized, and productive workplace.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of production and knows how to get things done. The ideal candidate can walk into the shop each morning, understand what needs to be accomplished, organize the people and materials required, identify potential problems, and make sure quality work leaves the shop on schedule. We value practical cabinet‑making and production experience over corporate manufacturing credentials.
If you have spent years working in a cabinet or millwork shop and have progressed into operating CNC equipment, running jobs, leading employees, coordinating production, and solving fabrication problems, we want to hear from you.
