DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PASTORAL CARE

Full Time/Part Time: Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Christian Leadership, Community Engagement, and Pastoral Care is responsible for formulating, establishing, and implementing a multifaceted Christian experience program at the Martha O'Bryan Center. As part of the Family Success Network team, this individual will provide religious worship, counseling, spiritual direction, support and crisis intervention to our clients and community. This individual will also directly recruit within the community and develop programming to engage youth and children and families contributing to their well-being, family stability and understanding of Jesus Christ.

This individual will serve as a subject matter expert concerning religious practices, and provide a non-judgmental, caring influence in the lives of all individuals who touch the Center, a visible model of respect and caring for each person in spiritual need. It is expected that much of the work will be outreach in the immediate community of Boscobel Heights (Cayce Homes) and surrounding walk community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Pastoral Care
  • Demonstrate pastoral care skills with sensitivity, approachability, and availability to our clients.
  • Provide individual spiritual and personal counseling.
  • Help to bring resolution to crisis situations involving clients; be available for emergency situations.
  • Be visible in all areas of the agency and community.
  • Regularly participate in and lead community outreach activities.
  • Assist in emergency notifications.
  • Collaborate with other programs in a holistic response to client needs.
Christian Leadership
  • Provide guidance and instruction in the Christian faith but also ensure impartial religious leadership respecting the needs of different faith groups.
  • Provide regular and personal leadership at worship and prayer gatherings.
  • Build opportunities for Christian education for adults and youth.
  • Find opportunities for community members to lead and participate in Christian activities, building community leadership.
  • Establish working relationships with local clergy and coordinate their contribution to the facility's religious program; aids such clergy in the understanding of our individual clients as well as poverty.
  • Supervise all religious services and meetings.
  • Oversee the fair and equitable management of all resources allocated to this section of the Family Success Network.
  • Establish and administer the budget affecting the program.
  • Set goals for the program and implement viable strategies for their attainment.
Agency Coordination
  • Communicate the mission and goals of the Pastoral Services program.
  • Serve as a member of the Family Success Network team; coordinate collaboratively with social work and clinical leaders on that team.
  • Work with the VP of Families and Community Services to recruit and engage community members in Center programming and opportunities.
  • Serve as a ready resource for subject matter expert information to staff; stay current with trends and networks in the field of urban ministry.
  • Provide appropriate training for staff concerning cultural, social, and religious diversity and an awareness and sensitivity to differences.
  • Represent the Center's Pastoral Services program in appropriate public forums and community engagement activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in religious studies or related field.
  • Social work degree preferred.
  • Three or more years of pastoral experience, community organizing and urban ministry experience preferred.
